Here we see the Essex class carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45) approaching Sydney Harbour, with the famous bridge visible in the distance, during a training and good will cruise in the Pacific early in 1948. The aircraft on deck are mainly Grumman F8F Bearcats, but there is also one TBM Avenger close to the camera. To the left are two Australian cruisers - HMAS Australia showing up brightly and HMAS Shropshire looking rather darker.
