Here we see the island of the Essex class carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45) during a visit of the American Ordnance Association at Long Beach, California on 27 April 1949. This had been formed as the Army Ordnance Association after the First World War to make sure that American industry would be more prepared for any future war. Above the crowded island we can see a large SX radar antenna. The aircraft is a Grumman F8F-2 Bearcat.
