Here we see the Essex class carrier USS Valley Forge (CV-45) at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 10 July 1959. At the time she was the flagship of Rear Admiral John S. Thach, inventor of the Thach weaver, and then commander of Task Force ALFA.
