USS Spence (DD-512) in Iron Bottom Sound, 1944
Here we see the Fletcher Class destroyer USS Spence (DD-512) in Iron Bottom Sound off Guadalcanal on 23 March 1944. Most of her crew are lining the decks and her flags are flying, suggesting that they are commemorating the ships lost in the area over the previous year and a half.
