USS Samuel B Roberts (DD-823) , Operation Mainbrace, 1952
Here we see the Gearing class destroyer USS Samuel B Roberts (DD-823) pulling away from USS Franklin D Roosevelt (CVB-42) on 20 September 1952 during Operation Mainbrace. This was the first large scale NATO exercise in the North Atlantic and involved just over 200 ships from nine countries.
