Bows view of USS Porter (DD-356) at Mare Island
Here we see a bow view of the Porter class destroyer USS Porter (DD-356) while she was at the Mare Island Navy Base on 10 July 1942, towards the end of a period opreating along the US west coast. From this angle we get a clear idea of how narrow the main bridge structure was, with wings emerging from both sides of the narrow central tower to make it look much larger from most angles.
