Kamikaze Damage to USS Newcomb (DD-586)
This picture shows some of her crew looking at damage on the Fletcher class destroyer USS Newcomb (DD-586) on 11 April, probably after she had been towed to Kerama Retto for initial repairs. The Newcomb was hit five times during an attack by kamikaze aircraft off Okinawa on 6 April 1945, but survived the attacks. However she was never fully repaired and was decommissioned in the US soon after the end of the war. .
