15,000hp Generator, USS New Mexico (BB-40)
Here we see one of the main 15,000hp electrical generators on the New Mexico class battleship USS New Mexico (BB-40) , on 18 June 1919. The New Mexico was the first battleship to have turbo-electric drive, which saw the steam from its oil fired boilers driving turbines that powered these two generators. The electricity then went to four massive electric motors that were directly attached to the propeller shafts.
