USS Miller (DD-535) at Mare Island, 24 August 1945
Here we see the Fletcher class destroyer USS Miller (DD-535) on 24 August 1945, during a period of yard availability at the Mare Island Navy Yard. From this angle it is obvious just how much destroyers had expanded in size and complexity since the original versions, giving them a profile more like that of a light cruiser than an early torpedo boat destroyer.
