Soviet Foxtrot class submarine alongside USS Lowry (DD-770), 1960s
Here we see a Soviet Foxtrot class submarine surfaced right alongside the Allen M Sumner class destroyer USS Lowry (DD-770) at some point in the 1960s, in a fairly typical cold war era confrontation. The windows on the front of the submarine's tower are for an enclosed bridge for use when the submarine was on the surface in the far north of the Soviet Union, where it would have been too cold to use an open bridge.
