Here we see a Zero attacking the Essex class carrier USS Lexington (CV-16) off Leyte on 5 November 1944. The aircraft hit near the island, causing significant damage to the front of the island structure and starting serious fires. However these were soon put out, and she was able to continue operating. Repairs were completed by mid December and she was back in action in January 1945.
