Amidships section, USS Kearny (DD-432)
This view of the amidships section of the Gleaves class destroyer USS Kearny (DD-432) was taken at Reykjavik on 19 October 1941, two days after she was torpedoed. To the right we see part of the torpedo tube. In the centre is a torpedo crane, allowing the tubes to be reloaded (something that wasn't possible on most early destroyers). Two of the crew are seen in a .50in anti-aircraft gun position, with the gun under cover and ready lockers for their ammo behind them.
