Here we see the sponsor's party for the Fletcher class destroyer USS Ingersoll (DD-652). On the left is Mrs Royal Rodney Ingersoll II and on the right is Miss Alice Jean Ingersoll. Mrs R.R. Ingersoll was the widow of Lt. Royal Rodney Ingersoll III, who was killed at Midway. Miss Alice Jean Ingersoll was the granddaughter of Admiral Royal Rodney Ingersoll I. At the left of the picture is Admiral Royal E. Ingersoll, the father of one and son of the other, and Commander-in-Chief of the Atlantic Fleet from 1 January 1942 until late 1944, so was six months into the role when this picture was taken on 28 June 1942.
