Here we see the stern of the Essex class carrier USS Hancock (CV-19) in December 1944, with an SB2C Helldiver on the flight deck above. This picture gives a good idea of just how complex these ships were, with two decks visible inside the hanger area to the left, and two levels of guns of two types at the stern.
