Here we see the Essex class carrier USS Franklin (CV-13) on fire on 19 March 1945 after being hit by two bombs from a Yokosuka D4Y dive bomber while operating close to the coast of Japan. Over 800 of her crew were killed and she became the most damaged US aircraft carrier to survive.
