Rescue efforts for USS Frank Evans (DD-754)

Here we see the rescue efforts for the damaged Allen M Sumner class destroyer USS Frank Evans (DD-754) after she turned in front of the Australian carrier HMAS Melbourne during night exercises on 3 June 1969. The stern sank quickly, taking 73 men with it, but the front half of the ship remained afloat and was eventually towed to Subic Bay.  To the right is the USS Everett F. Larson (DD-830), in the background is a RAN frigate, and hovering to the right is a SH-3 helicopter from USS Kearsarge (CVS-33).
