USS Eugene A Greene (DD-711), 1964

Here we see the Gearing class destroyer USS Eugune A Greene (DD-771) steaming past USS Lake Champlain (CVS-39) on 23 September 1964, probably somewhere close to the US East Coast, as the Lake Champlain had just completed repairs to damage caused by a collision with the Decatur earlier in the yaer. A Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King from the carrier can be seen flying past the destroyer. The Eugune A Greene had been converted into a radar picket in the early 1950s, and also appears to have had a FRAM upgrade, as she carries the helicopter hanger associated with that upgrade.
