Temporary Bow on USS Ernest G Small (DD-838), 1951
Here we see the temporary bow that was installed on the Gearing class destroyer USS Ernest G Small (DD-838) at Yokosuka after her own bow came off after she hit a mine off Korea on 7 October 1951. This stub bow allowed her to reach Long Beach under her own power, where she was given a new bow.
