Here we see the Benham class destroyer USS Ellet (DD-398) being delivered to the Navy in 1939, after being completed by the Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Kearny, N.J. Note the difference between the forward guns in their gun houses and the unshielded rear guns, here protected by loose covers.
