USS Cowell (DD-547) returning pilot to carrier during battle of Leyte Gulf
Here we see the Fletcher class destroyer returning a pilot to his carrier after rescuing him from the sea at some point during the battle of Leyte Gulf. The picture is dated 28 October 1944, placing this two days after the end of the battle, suggesting that there was some delay in returning the downed pilot to his unit.
