USS Charrette (DD-581) screening USS New Jersey (BB-62), Leyte Gulf, 1944
Here we see the Fletcher class destroyer USS Charrette (DD-581) screening the battleship USS New Jersey (DD-581) on 24 October 1944, during the battle of Leyte Gulf. This was the day before the main events of the battle, although the US fleet did come under air attack.
