USS Caperton (DD-650) saluting HMS Alert and Admiral Lambe
Here we see the officers of the Fletcher class destroyer USS Caperton (DD-650) saluting the Bay class frigate HMS Alert as it carried Admiral Charles Lambe, commander in chief of the British Far East Station on the Saigon River on 20 October 1953. Admiral Lambe held that post from March 1953 until October 1944 when he became Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel.
