USS Baldwin (DD-624) aground, Long Island, 1961
Here we see the Gleaves class destroyer USS Baldwin (DD-624) after she ran aground on Montaulk Point, Long Island, on 16 April 1961. At the time she was being towed from Boston to Philadelphia between two reserve bases. The high tech looking domes on the are actually simple covers for some of the more vulnerable equipment (in this case the AA guns).
