ISU-152 crossing river, Latvian Front
Here we see a pair of ISU-152 heavy assault guns crossing a river on the Latvian Front, at some point in 1944. The ISU-152 was designed as an assault gun, to support infantry and armour attacks, but its massive 152mm gun (on a par with 6in naval guns!) was an effective anti-tank weapon, relying on the blast from its HE shells rather than any armour penetration.
