HMS Queen Elizabeth

This picture of HMS Queen Elizabeth was published in March 1942. Three months earlier, in December 1941, the ship had been crippled by a daring Italian attack, using "human torpedoes". She had settled in the shallow water of Alexandria harbour, and Admiral Cunningham managed to maintain the illusion that she was still afloat. This picture shows Admiral Cunningham with Captain Oliver Lyttelton, the minister of state for the Middle East.
