Nose of North American B-25H 'Wabash Cannonball'

This close up shows us the nose art on North American B-25H 'Wabash Cannonball' of the 491st Bombardment Squadron, although it isn't entirely clear what the connection is between horseshoe throwing and the 'Wabash Cannonball' railway or the folk song it inspired. Note the large gap required by the nose mounted 75mm cannon.

These pictures come from the collection of Sydney Lester, who served as a Staff Sergeant in the 491st Bombardment Squadron (341st Bombardment Group). Many thanks to his son Ron Lester for providing us with this pictures.
