8th Army Mountain Infantry, 1945
The original wartime caption for this picture says that it shows a member of a specially trained battalion of mountain troops within the 8th Army, carrying a 100lb pack and a Bren Gun. The picture dates to the spring of 1945, as the 8th Army was about to break out of the mountains and fight through the Argenta Gap onto the Po Plains.
