Allied soldier measures 380mm gun at Todt Battery
Here we see an Allied soldier measuring the barrel of one of the 380mm guns at the Todt Battery, which fell to the Canadians on 29 September 1944 during the battle for Calais. This was a modified version of the guns that had been carried on the Bismarck and Tirpitz and five were placed in the battery, from where they fired across the channel towards Dover. They fired their last shots on the day the battery fell.
