This photograph from the the 321st Bombardment Group's post-war 'Headlines' pamphlet shows Colonel R.H. Smith, a veteran of 38 combat missions in heavy bombers, who had been overseas for 19 months when he replaced Colonel Charles T. Olmsted as the ground commander. Smith was in command from 26 March 1944 until 28 January 1945.
This document comes from a pamphlet produced by the 321st Bombardment Group after the war, which told the story of the group's activities from 15 March 1943-15 March 1945 in the form of a newspaper.
