Kokoda Trail - The Japanese Advance

Map showing the Japanese advance along the Kokoda Trail over the Owen Stanley Mountains, New Guinea. Most dates indicate the day on which the Japanese reached that point, but their advance was help up for some time between Kokoda and Deniki. They arrived on 26 July, having pushed the Australians from Oivi to Deniki, but two counterattacks followed (28 July and 10 August) before superior Japanese forces arrived to begin the push across the mountains on 13 August.
