New Berne

Map showing the area around New Berne, North Carolina, at the time of its capture by Union forces in 1862. The Union attackers landed at Slocum's Creek, and advanced towards New Berne. The main Confederate defences were at Fort Thompson. On 14 March the Federal army attacked those positions and defeated the defenders. New Berne was captured on the same day, and remained in Union hands for the rest of the war.
